Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. Hebrews 13: 2
Here at St Mary’s Convent in Wantage, beneath the Downs, the Guest Wing is a place of stillness enabling space and spiritual refreshment for all who visit. Everyone is welcome at the Eucharist and Daily Office and to spend personal time in the chapels.
There is opportunity to meet together, for those who wish, after the Eucharist on Sundays and Principal Feasts.
The Guest Wing offers a sitting room with a small library, a dining room, an informal quiet room, an art room, a computer room and other designated areas. Tea and coffee are readily available.
For groups wishing to stay on the Guest Wing there are over 20 bedrooms available, two of which are twin bedded. Although bedrooms are not en-suite, there is a ground floor en-suite bedroom for those with special needs. Also available within the Guest Wing is a small flat with en-suite facilities and a small oratory. There are rooms available for meetings and small conferences.
Those visiting for individual Quiet Days are allocated a room and are able to eat in the Guests’ Dining Room, if desired. The main meal is normally in the middle of the day, supper being a lighter meal. Vegetarian options or special dietary requirements are catered for when known in advance.
Certain parts of the Convent grounds, including the water garden, are available for guests to spend time resting and reflecting there. The Guest Wing includes an area selling books and religious items.
