Alongsiders stay at the Community for an agreed period of time living alongside Sisters, sharing something of the Community’s life including prayer, worship and some aspects of work.
This initiative is for those who need or who would like to find space. It is particularly open to those who are in sympathy with and have an interest in the tradition of the Anglican Religious life and who would like to learn more about the Community’s ethos, values and way of life and who would like to reflect and understand what the Community does as it look outwards to the needs of the world.
The intention is in no way to intrude on the life of Alongsiders but if individuals need somebody to listen to them or to share some of their thinking, the Sisters would be very willing to respond.
Alongsiders at the Convent bring a sense of new life and echo the words of Jesus: “I come to give you life and give it abundantly.” — John 10:10
Of course, being an Alongsider could prove mutually challenging both to the individual and to the Community. It can also offer an unparallelled opportunity to allow space and time to address issues in life.
The Convent can offer sanctuary and personal stillness. There is undoubtedly a growing interest in spirituality, prayer and a longing for community life in a society which has become very fragmented.
A contribution to keep would be asked for.
